Whereas Brooks took on the function of the legendary gospel singer and activist, Kalukango performs Jackson’s loyal piano-playing pal. Kalukango stated their longtime friendship performed a component of their on-camera chemistry.
“It was completely important,” says Kalukango. “We’ve identified one another since we had been 18 in school collectively and a lot of that coaching is about working and constructing an ensemble and [with] that familiarity, there are issues we are able to ask of one another with no ego. We’ve actually seen one another at our worst and finest days.”
Kalukango and Brooks met as roommates at The Juilliard College in New York 10 years in the past and later turned shut mates.
The 32-year-old says there was “freedom” in having the ability to go to Brooks and say, “‘Hey let’s go work on this scene’ or ‘hey, how you are feeling about this second? Am I providing you with what you want?’ with none ego, with none trepidation, with none concern.”
Kalukango additionally shared that her friendship with Brooks made filming really feel much less like work and extra like enjoyable.
“Truthfully, it didn’t really feel like work and that’s simply the fun-ness about that,” she laughs. “It simply felt like having a blast with your loved ones. And I imply it was an exquisite expertise.”
