Lionel Richie mirrored on a few of his most memorable moments along with his longtime buddy Tina Turnerin a brand new Vogue profile.
“Once I consider my expensive buddy Tina, I consider willpower, power, and an unimaginable work ethic,” Richie tells Vogue. “There are performers, there are singers and there are entertainers. Tina is all three.”
The “Hiya” singer remembers Tina opening up for his Can’t Sluggish Down world tour in 1984, which he says she agreed to do following her divorce from Ike Turner and the discharge of her fifth solo album, 1984’s RIAA-certified multi-Platinum Personal Dancer.
“I bear in mind her strolling into the rehearsal. She was very quiet, virtually shy, with this wonderful smile and persona,” Richie remembers. “Then the music began and he or she became Tina Turner. To the purpose the place I couldn’t carry out. I might simply sit and watch what she was doing.”
Richie stated being on stage with Tina “was essentially the most unimaginable feeling of my total life.” Like many, he stated he was mesmerized by Tina’s “singing, her efficiency, [and] her vitality.”
“From the second, she stepped on stage with me throughout her comeback because the Tina Turner to recording “We Are The World” to the time she took me on her Twenty 4 Seven tour after I took a break,” Richie continues. “We have now shared moments in historical past that I’ll always remember. My buddy is a star and a dwelling legend. A one-of-a-kind spirit that the world is blessed to have.”
