Ma Rainey’s Black Backside star Viola Davis was honored with the African American Movie Critics Affiliation’s prestigious Icon Award at a ceremony, introduced nearly on Wednesday.
Davis’ Ma Rainey co-star Colman Domingo made the presentation, throughout which he described Davis as “one of many best actors of all time,” in accordance with the New York Publish.
“I’ve all the time struggled my complete profession — in all probability life — feeling like I’m worthy of all this reward,” she admitted whereas accepting the award. “I feel what makes it a straightforward type of tablet to swallow is once I consider folks like August Wilson and I take into consideration administrators like George C. Wolfe and Denzel Washington.”
Added the 55-year-old actress, “My acceptance of any of this reward is the same as my absolute ardour to depart a legacy, a legacy for brown-skinned women identical to me who had been advised they had been invisible… It’s been the experience of my life to have this profession.”
Davis, a veteran of Wilson’s stage and display productions, hailed the late playwright as “our modern-day griot, who completely believed that black lives did matter.”
“Honored to obtain the Icon Award final night time! Thanks,” the actress shared Thursday on Instagram, together with a sequence of images of herself in a brilliant yellow robe and matching heels.
