Dawson Odums to be named Norfolk State head coach

Southern is dropping one of many program’s most profitable head coaches to the MEAC.

Dawson Odums, who spent the final 9 seasons at Southern, is predicted to be named the following head at Norfolk State, in keeping with varied stories and confirmed by HBCU Sports activities.

Odums is coming off a 2023 spring season the place he helped lead Southern to a 5-1 file, together with a 49-7 win over Grambling within the Bayou Basic.

Throughout his tenure at Southern, Odums guided the Jaguars to 4 SWAC West division championships, 4 convention title sport appearances and one SWAC crown in 2013 after assuming the position from then-head coach Stump Mitchell in 2012.

Odums will exchange Latrell Scott, who resigned at Norfolk State in March to take an assistant place at East Carolina.

Scott was named head coach at Norfolk State in 2014 and compiled a 21-35 file with the Spartans in 5 seasons.

Odums will return to the MEAC after spending a number of years within the league as an assistant at Bethune-Cookman from 2005-2007 and North Carolina A&T from 2008-2010.

He had a profession 64-32 general file at Southern and 54-16 file within the SWAC.
