If you will be in town visiting, here are options for every budget category and an Airbnb option for someone looking for something more private.
Best Budget Option (Under $75 a Night)
If you’re looking for something that’s comfortable and convenient, check into the Holiday Inn Stillwater. Located three miles from the OSU campus, you save a bit of money by being further from campus, but you’ll still be within a few minutes’ drive from most of Stillwater’s best sites.

Best Midrange Option ($75-125 a Night)
If you want a few more amenities like a pool, check out the Home2 Suites by Hilton. Less than a mile from the football stadium, this is a great place to stay if you’re planning on doing campus activities or sporting events during your trip.

Best Budget Luxury Option (Under $100 a Night)
If you want to stay somewhere truly lovely, make reservations at the Atherton Hotel at OSU. With Instagrammable gardens and a restaurant on site, this is as close to true luxury as you’ll find in Stillwater.

The Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants in Stillwater, OK
Stillwater is home to Oklahoma State University, my old college rival, so I’ve gotten to visit on many occasions. Most of which involved food and football! And I always find something delicious whenever I’m in town!
You know you’re in a college town when even a steakhouse makes the list for good vegetarian dishes, but that also makes it a great place to take a date (or your parents if they’re in town).
For a healthier option try the Beet Box food truck. For an indulgent dinner check out one of the vegan burgers at The Garage Burgers and Beer. And if you’ve got room for dessert Blue Spruce will set you up with some delicious gelato or vegan sorbet! Keep reading for more great Stillwater restaurants.
The Beet Box
This entirely Plant-Based Food Truck offers up some amazing vegetarian and vegan food. Their menu boasts not just plant-based ‘beef’ and ‘chicken’ dishes but even has a wide range of ‘seafood’ style vegan food.
If you’re in the mood for a vegan ‘lobster’ or ‘crab cake’ you’re in luck! To find out where and when you can catch this plant-based food truck visit their website. This is a must-visit for vegetarians and vegans in Stillwater.

Golden Dragon Cafe
With a menu that goes on for days, there is something for everyone at Golden Dragon Cafe. Serving Chinese and Thai cuisine you’ll find entire sections of the menu dedicated to vegetarian dishes, many of which are vegan. If you’re concerned that a vegetarian option could have eggs/dairy just ask and see if the item can be made vegan.
Self-described as sophisticated Asian cuisine, I think you’ll find something to love at Golden Dragon Cafe. If you’re looking for an idea, my personal favorite Thai dish happens to be Tom Yum Soup, which they offer at Golden Dragon.

New Thai Cafe
I am a huge fan of Thai food. Not only is it utterly delicious they have so many vegetarian and vegan options! Come try Stillwater’s local New Thai Cafe for some great Thai curries, soups, and noodle dishes. While the menu doesn’t note which options are vegan, you can absolutely ask to verify their dishes are made without animal products. I personally love a good Thai Red Curry!
If you’re a fan of vegetarian and vegan Asian food then go check out Thai Cafe. It comes highly recommended by locals.

Thai Loco
This unique restaurant offers up Thai-inspired street tacos and burritos! Come try the Crispy Tofu tacos on a flour tortilla, or the Vegetable and Tofu Burrito! Make it vegan by requesting no cheese or aioli. A combination of my favorite Thai cuisine and spicy Latin street food? It’s a combination you have to try to believe. Thai Loco is doing it right!

The Garage Burger and Beer
A great restaurant with a full bar and a relaxed casual atmosphere, the Garage Burger and Beer is known for their burgers. They have an incredibly delicious vegan quinoa burger and now even offer the Impossible Burger patties. They have great flavor combinations on the menu or you can make your own burger! I hear the tacos are also a great option.
You can’t go wrong at The Garage. My family loves their vegan burgers with a side of excellently prepared sweet potato fries! Have a drink with your meal, they have a great ‘rad hour’ with drink specials Monday through Friday from 3 pm – 6 pm. I also love that they have so many locations.
You can get a great vegan burger in Stillwater, Tulsa, Broken Arrow, OKC, Edmond, Moore, Owasso, Del City, Norman, and Shawnee! I don’t typically recommend that many chain restaurants, but this burger is so good I’m happy they’re widely available! This is by far my family’s favorite burger joint.

Nikki’s Greek Restaurant
This family-owned business is known for its Greek, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern food. Their menu has an extensive list of vegetarian offerings. While no menu items are specified vegan many items are naturally vegan including the Dolmas (rice wrapped in grape leaves, a personal favorite Mediterranean dish of mine).
Come try a great Greek Salad (minus the feta) or one of their many delicious soups. Lentil soup and falafel, I’m making my own mouth water!

Nagoya Japanese Sushi and Steakhouse
I can’t get enough of good Japanese Hibachi! Come dine at the Nagoya Japanese Sushi and Steakhouse for some great vegetarian sushi. They even have a hibachi vegetable plate. With such an extensive menu this is a great place for those who like to try new things.
As with most Japanese Steakhouses (and steakhouses in general), be prepared to pay more for this upscale treat. As for vegan food, the menu doesn’t specify if any of the dishes are made with animal products, but don’t be afraid to ask! Many, many restaurants offer specialty items not listed on the menu.

Insomnia Cookies
Vegan Cookies! I am a passionate vegan home baker so I’m always on the lookout for vegan baked goods. Insomnia Cookies has three varieties of vegan cookies on offer: Birthday Cake, Chocolate Chunk, and a Double Chocolate Chunk. Even better you can get them delivered! Yes, you can get vegan cookies delivered in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The times are changing!

Happy Buddha Chinese Food
Highly recommended by locals, Happy Buddha Chinese Food serves up generous portions of vegetarian dishes at great prices. They have a wide menu selection and the vegetarian section has a lot on offer.
Nothing on the menu is specifically vegan, so you’ll have to ask about dairy and egg use, but otherwise, this is a great local find. This restaurant even has a drive-through option, which a lot of great Chinese food places don’t have.

Blue Spruce
The Blue Spruce has to be one of the cutest shops in Stillwater. Offering up freshly made gelato, sorbets, coffee, and teas it’s a great place to grab a vegetarian or vegan dessert in Stillwater.
Enjoy a calming cup of tea with one of their vegan sorbets. I even hear a vegan gelato is in the works so stay tuned! Come for the great desserts and stay for the cool atmosphere. This is the perfect location to indulge my sweet tooth!

Louie’s Bar and Grill
I have lots of fun memories hanging out at Louis Bar and Grill. This is a great game day location and they have a wonderful drinks selection. They do have a plant-based burger option on the menu as well as tacos and salad options. Nothing on the menu is specified vegan so make sure to tell your waitperson if ordering vegan. A great place to have fun with friends or family. A Game Day favorite of mine!

Tokyo Pot
Have you ever had Shabu Shabu or Hot Pot dining? Tokyo Pot is so unique in that they serve their Japanese food in hot pots! Experience your food by ordering from the vegetarian menu, and requesting the vegan broth, and cook the veggies at your own table! This Japanese style of dining has been popular for centuries and it’s quite fun!
Bring your family and friends to enjoy a delicious ‘make it your own’ meal! Be prepared to pay a little extra for this one-of-a-kind dining experience.

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop
I had to include Fuzzy’s Taco Shop on my list of Stillwater, Oklahoma’s best vegetarian restaurants as the tacos are outstanding. They do have vegetarian tacos and burritos. You can customize your meal to vegan, just make sure your waitperson knows and request no cheese or sour cream. I just can’t say no to a good chimichurri sauce, what about you?

Nooki
Vegetarian Sushi, Poke bowls, and Burritos? Sounds like good eats to me! You can order vegetarian from the menu or make your own vegan poke bowls. Or Poke Burrito! This place has a fun atmosphere and the portions are generous.
Sushi burritos are my new favorite food concept! Very vegetarian and vegan-friendly menu and a good atmosphere. Next time you want sushi with a twist try Nooki.

Maysan Gyro
This nondescript Mediterranean find made the best vegetarian list with its falafel, many delicious salad options, and tasty hummus. Not to mention most if not all of the vegetarian options are vegan as well. I am a big fan of grape leaves and Maysan has a vegetarian version! Family-owned and operated, this restaurant is one of Stillwater’s best Mediterranean places to eat.

Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe
Try Pickleman’s for a gourmet veggie sandwich, wrap, pizza, soup or salad. I love that their menu clearly states what items are vegetarian. For vegan options make sure you check that the vegetarian dish can be made vegan with substitutions.
Whether you’re in the mood for a toasted veggie sandwich or a warming bowl of chili lentil soup you’ll find something to love at Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe. With locations in Stillwater and Norman, you can get your grub on whichever city you visit! Hours are may be shortened at times so check their website for up-to-date times.

Sonic Drive-In
No, there’s nothing really for vegetarians or vegans to eat here, but if you’re in town visiting, you really should head over to the first Sonic Drive-In in America, right here in Stillwater. I still get drinks at Sonic all the time (us Oklahomans love our Sonic ice). I do hope they expand their menu to include some good vegan food and vegetarian food options in the future.
What about Eskimo Joe’s?
Stillwater’s best-known restaurant is probably the hometown favorite Eskimo Joe’s and its newer restaurant Mexico Joe’s. I did not end up putting them on the list of the best Vegetarian and Vegan-friendly restaurants in Stillwater. While they do have a vegetarian black bean burger on the menu for Eskimo Joe’s, I find they had very few dishes that could work for vegetarians. Even the salad options are loaded with meat and dairy products.
But more than the lack of vegetarian eats I personally can’t recommend this restaurant for my own reason. The Eskimo mascot is inappropriate for this restaurant which is not Native American-owned. The restaurant owners have been very clear about keeping their name, despite Native American groups calling for a change.
It is time we recognize that using racial slurs, no matter the context, should be stopped. This restaurant is not an exception to that statement, therefore I won’t be recommending any of their establishments until there is a change. There is a petition on Change.org, if you feel that there should be change please consider signing the petition.
