Foundation to honor state’s top educators, students at 35th Academic Awards Celebration

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Basis for Excellence will honor 5 excellent Oklahoma educators, together with 100 of the state’s prime public highschool seniors when internet hosting its thirty fifth Educational Awards Celebration. The occasion will happen at 2 p.m. Saturday, Could 22, on the Cox Enterprise Conference Middle, in downtown Oklahoma Metropolis.

The Oklahoma Basis for Excellence is a nonprofit, charitable group based in 1985 by then-U.S. Sen. David Boren to acknowledge and encourage tutorial excellence in Oklahoma’s public faculties.

By its Educational Awards Program, the inspiration has awarded greater than $5 million in merit-based scholarships and money awards to honor excellent graduating seniors as Educational All-Staters and distinctive educators as Medal for Excellence winners.

The muse will current its 2023-21 Oklahoma Medal for Excellence Award in Elementary Instructing to Michelle Rahn, a sixth-grade STEM (Science, Know-how, Engineering and Math) instructor at Will Rogers Junior Excessive in Claremore. The award for Secondary Instructing will go to Shelley Self, an artwork instructor at Coweta Excessive Faculty.

The Excellence Award in Elementary/Secondary Administration will honor Chuck McCauley, superintendent of Bartlesville Public Faculties; in Regional College/Neighborhood School Instructing to Dr. David Bass, professor of biology on the College of Central Oklahoma, Edmond; and in Analysis College Instructing to Dr. Edralin Lucas, professor of dietary sciences, Oklahoma State College, Stillwater.

The honorees, who have been unable to be acknowledged in particular person in 2023 because of the pandemic, will obtain awards at this 12 months’s ceremony. 

Every Medal for Excellence recipient receives a $5,000 money award in addition to a glass “Roots and Wings” sculpture.

The Oklahoma Basis for Excellence, with help from scholarship sponsors, may also current merit-based Educational All-State Scholarships of $1,000 every and medallions to 100 Educational All-State Students.
